ATM UX Redesign
B R I E F
A personal project where I sought to rethink the current ATM experience. The familiar sight of long queues awaiting us at the ATM machine, where a simple task of withdrawing money could take up to 15 minutes of our precious lunch time. I looked at how the addition of a simple function within our personal banking apps could manage this problem. Definitely still a work in progress!

Quick observations and short interviews with friends were done to understand the our behaviours when utilising the ATM machine. It was a common behaviour that almost all interviewees replied to using their smartphones to kill time while waiting in line.

This concept taps on our queueing behaviour to integrate functions that aim to simplify and streamline the cash withdrawal experience. Features on this smartphone banking experience are designed to work alongside the existing ATM machines, including:

1) denomination selection which filters ATM locations
2) pre-selecting desired cash withdraw amount
3) 'withdraw-now' QR code function links smartphones to ATM
4) simplified UI on both smartphone and ATM that zooms into most-used functions

Quick interviews were carried out with friends and members of the public. Participants cited long queues, complicated functions, excessive options and an overall lengthy process that often caused unhappiness.

P R O T O T Y P E  -  Between App and ATM
In order to link the app and ATM, a 'withdraw now' function was integrated into the app, where users can pre-determine their cash withdrawal amounts on the app before approaching the ATM. Thus, streamlining their experience at the machine.
